3rd Biennial Union Co-op Symposium
Are you feeling overwhelmed by the extreme inequality that exists in our community and world? Our current economic system does not work for the majority of working people. More than half of all jobs pay less than $27,000 per year with little to no benefits, and one in three jobs is less than full time. Income inequality in this country is staggering with the wealthiest 10% owning 70% of the wealth. CUCI has a hopeful, proven solution that can make a difference at the local level.
On Dec 1st & 2nd, people from across the U.S. and Mondragon, Spain will be coming together to Stand Up and Build worker cooperatives – an economic model that directly addresses the poverty and income inequality our current system has created. Over 200 workers, union and community organizers, and business and religious leaders will join one another for a two day conference to learn from one another and the economically thriving Mondragon system (the largest group of worker-owned cooperatives).
The symposium will focus on progress being made to establish integrated networks of worker-owned, unionized businesses. Participants will discuss best practices, union co-op management, financing, education and training, the power of the union co-op model, and ways to build an economy that works for all.
Date: 8:30am-6:30pm, December 1st & 2nd
